Calon Lân — one of Wales’ most iconic hymns, and one with Ospreys connections running right through it!
Mynyddbach Chapel in Treboeth, Swansea is the home of the Calon Lân Centre, and the final resting place of Daniel James – Gwyrosydd – the man who wrote the words to Calon Lân.
And the Ospreys links don’t stop there! The words were written in Blaengarw, on the eastern edge of the region, while the music was composed by another local man, John Hughes of Landore, who is buried just down the road at Caersalem Chapel.
So yes — Calon Lân belongs right here in Ospreylia!
On Friday, August 14th, the Ospreys Supporters Club, together with the Calon Lân Centre and Ospreys in the Community, are putting on a special concert featuring the fantastic Gwalia Singers.
And don’t worry – this won’t just be a sit-and-listen evening. There’ll be plenty of chance for everyone to join in, helped along by our very own Ospreys Supporters Choir!
Dyma gyfle i ni i gyd ddathlu’r cysylltiad rhwng Calon Lân a’r Gweilch – y rhanbarth mwyaf llwyddiannus yng Nghymru!
It’s a chance to celebrate Welsh history, rugby pride, community spirit — and, of course, a proper good sing-song!
Tickets are just £10 for adults, with children going free, and that includes entry into a prize draw with some great prizes. Proceeds will be shared between the Calon Lân Centre and Ospreys in the Community, supporting brilliant work across the region.
There’s plenty of parking too.
You can get your tickets from the Ospreys Supporters Club Shop here:
Rydyn ni’n edrych ymlaen at eich gweld chi yno – dewch yn llu i ddathlu gyda ni!
And after the singing? We’ll see you for the afterglow at the very appropriately named Welcome Inn, right next door!
We look forward to seeing you there.
