OSC response to the WRU putting PRA25 back on the table

Posted by Grant Berni (OSC) on 24th April 2026
Posted in: INFO.

The Ospreys Supporters Club welcomes the news that PRA25 has been placed back on the table and that the Ospreys are now expected to sign an agreement aiming to secure professional rugby in our region into 2030. This is an important step forward, providing much-needed stability and allowing long-awaited work at St Helen’s to begin – this is hugely significant moment for our team, our region, our city and the wider game in Wales.

We would like to thank everyone who has played a part in ensuring the voice of the people who care about the game has been heard throughout this process: Ospreys supporters have been magnificent as well as supporters across Welsh rugby.  Rob Stewart and the whole of Swansea City Council, most local MPs, and all those others who have stood up and challenged decisions that threatened the future of professional rugby in our region deserve recognition for their part they have played so far.

While we welcome this outcome, we should not forget the unnecessary distress caused by the way this process has been handled. For months, players, staff and supporters have been subjected to uncertainty that should never have been allowed to develop. The damage caused by that instability has been real, and entirely avoidable.

The opportunity to sign PRA25 is a positive development, but it does not resolve our deep concerns over the WRU’s continued intention to reduce the number of elite professional clubs from four to three in 2028, through a clause retained within PRA25.

Our position remains unchanged: four professional clubs are vital for the future of Welsh rugby. Reducing the professional game to three sides is not a strategy for renewal, it risks weakening participation, supporter engagement and the long term strength and success of the game across Wales.

The OSC will continue to oppose any move to reduce the number of professional clubs and will continue to campaign, constructively and robustly, in the best interests of Welsh rugby as a whole.

The news  brings relief and progress, and we welcome that wholeheartedly. But this is not the end, it is the beginning of the next phase in ensuring a sustainable future.

This is our game.
